Inaccessible_boot_device

Windows 2000 Professional

When there is abnormal system shutdown due to environmental power failure or power cord pulled out or chances are there that the PC has been moved physical when the system is running, and the next boot the BSOD with inaccessible boot device message is seen.

PANIC not..
simply reboot the computer with Win2k bootable CD. select repair by console, select the boot partition (you need to enter the partition number displayed next to the found partition basically its 1) and run “chkdsk /r c:” where c: is assumed to be system boot device/partition normally. When the complete disk check is finished remove the CD and restart, you should see the system is now booting normally without any problem.

If the problem persist check out this KB315396 or this KB297185
